01

Maintenance is not optional

Like a car or a house, a caravan needs regular maintenance. Without proper care, seals, fittings, tyres, batteries and moving parts can deteriorate faster than they should.

02

Use the guide first

The Quick Start Guide is the best place to check regular owner tasks and important care reminders. It is worth saving the PDF on your phone before your first trip.

03

Ask before guessing

If something does not look right, contact the Select Caravans team before forcing a fitting, towing with an uncertain setup or ignoring an early warning sign.

Towing setup

Trailer weight distribution explained

A properly matched weight distribution hitch can help improve towing balance by distributing load more evenly through the tow vehicle and caravan setup. This video is a useful starting point for understanding why weight distribution matters.

Every tow setup is different. Vehicle rating, towbar rating, caravan ATM, ball weight, payload and loading all need to be checked before towing.

Towing

Safe loading and towing resources

Correct loading, tow vehicle suitability and hitch setup all matter. These resources help customers understand towing weights, safe loading and towing behaviour before heading away.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Where should I start after collecting my caravan?

Start with the Select Caravans Quick Start Guide, then work through the setup, care and maintenance sections before your first trip. It is also useful to keep a copy saved on your phone.

How often should I maintain my caravan?

Maintenance should be regular, not only when something fails. Check seals, tyres, batteries, brakes, safety equipment, appliances and moving parts as part of your normal ownership routine.

Where can I check if my vehicle can tow a caravan?

Use the AA towing weight tables and the NZTA safe loading and towing guide as starting points. You should also check your vehicle handbook, towbar rating, payload and loaded caravan weights.

Do I need a weight distribution hitch?

It depends on your tow vehicle, caravan, ball weight and loaded setup. A properly matched weight distribution hitch can help with towing balance, but it should be selected and adjusted correctly.

Are the videos specific to my model?

No. Videos are general guides and may show different features, options or layouts. Always follow the information supplied with your own caravan and ask us if anything is unclear.
