Truma VarioHeat eco 2.8kW LPG caravan heater
The Truma VarioHeat eco is a compact 12V LPG warm-air heater for caravans, motorhomes and campervans. It uses two heat-output levels, automatic temperature regulation and the Truma CP plus VarioHeat control panel to bring the living area to your selected temperature.
Choose the factory heater package or the supplier's heater-plus-installation-kit bundle. Check the confirmed contents below before ordering, because the two variants are not the same package.

Installation layouts vary. Before ordering the kit, have your installer confirm the required cowl configuration, wall thickness, flue route, warm-air ducting, outlets, clamps and any additional fittings. Do not assume every vehicle-specific component is included.
Is the VarioHeat eco right for your RV?
- Designed for compatible caravans, motorhomes and campervans.
- Runs on propane/butane LPG at 30mbar and requires a 12V electrical supply.
- The heater unit measures 400 × 284 × 123mm (L × W × H) and weighs approximately 5.5kg without peripheral components.
- Can be installed vertically or lying flat where the approved clearances, service access, cowl and duct routes can be maintained.
- Uses an 80mm warm-air system. The final duct and outlet layout must be planned for the vehicle.
- It heats circulated cabin air. It does not heat water.
Heating modes and control
Set the required room temperature using the included Truma CP plus VarioHeat control panel and room-temperature sensor. The heater regulates its output automatically. Eco mode manages normal heating, Boost provides faster warm-up, and Night mode operates at the 1.3kW level with the lowest fan setting for quieter overnight comfort.

New Zealand installation and safety
This is a fixed LPG appliance, not a portable space heater. In New Zealand, gasfitting work on a caravan or motorhome must be carried out by an authorised person, usually a licensed gasfitter. The completed work must meet current New Zealand requirements and be appropriately certified. Follow the Truma installation instructions for the gas supply, 12V connection, combustion-air and exhaust system, warm-air distribution, clearances and ventilation.
WorkSafe advises that LPG appliances in caravans and motorhomes should not be operated while the vehicle is travelling. Keep all vents, the combustion-air intake and the exhaust outlet unobstructed.
Frequently asked questions
Does the heater-only variant include the CP plus control panel?
Yes. Manufacturer part 37401-01 includes the Truma CP plus VarioHeat control panel, 6m cable, room-temperature sensor, mounting bracket and electrical-connection accessories with the heater.
Does the heater-only variant include a flue?
No exhaust system is listed in the factory heater-package scope. Choose the RVD300D kit variant when you need the supplier-listed flue and installation components, then confirm the complete vehicle-specific parts list with your installer.
Can the VarioHeat eco heat water?
No. It is a warm-air space-heating appliance for the RV living area, not a water heater.
Can I install it myself?
The vehicle layout can be planned in advance, but New Zealand gasfitting must be completed by an authorised gasfitter. Electrical, flue, cowl and duct installation must also follow the manufacturer instructions and applicable requirements.
Can it run while the caravan or motorhome is moving?
WorkSafe's New Zealand guidance says LPG appliances should not be used while a caravan is travelling. Turn the appliance off before travel and refuelling.
Is 2.8kW suitable for my caravan or campervan?
Truma positions the VarioHeat eco for vans, caravans and motorhomes, but heating performance depends on interior volume, insulation, outside temperature and duct layout. Ask your installer to confirm sizing and the installation plan.
