The Victron Centaur battery charger is a robust, high-output AC charger for 12V or 24V lead-acid battery systems. It suits caravans, motorhomes, boats and off-grid installations that need reliable charging from shore power, mains power or a compatible generator. Three isolated outputs let one charger serve up to three battery banks, while the wide 90–265VAC input range helps it cope with varying power supplies.

Charging performance and installation
The Centaur delivers its rated output across the specified universal AC input range. Temperature-controlled forced-air cooling helps manage high output. Full rated current is available to 40°C, with approximate output derating to 80% at 50°C and 60% at 60°C. The operating range is -20°C to 60°C.
This is an IP20 charger, so install it upright in a dry, protected and well-ventilated location. It is not suitable for direct weather exposure. Allow clearance for airflow and remember that the cooling fan can be heard when the charger is working hard.
Correct DC cable sizing, over-current protection, battery isolation and earthing are essential at these current levels. Enclosure size, terminal size and mounting details vary by model, so check the latest Victron installation drawing for your selected part number before planning the space. High-current DC work and any fixed AC connection should be completed by a suitably qualified installer.

Which Centaur model do I need?
Start with your battery bank voltage, then compare the bank's usable capacity and permitted charge current with the table above. Allow for DC loads that will run while charging. If you are unsure, share your battery details and typical loads with our team before ordering.
Can it charge three batteries at once?
Yes. The Centaur has three isolated outputs for up to three battery banks. The selected model's rated current is the charger's total available output, distributed according to battery demand. It is not three times the stated current.
Is the Centaur suitable for lithium batteries?
The documented DIP-switch profiles are for flooded lead-acid, Gel and AGM batteries. A dedicated lithium profile is not documented for this range. Do not assume compatibility with lithium batteries. Choose a lithium-capable charger unless your battery or system supplier has explicitly approved the Centaur settings.
Will it work with New Zealand mains power or a generator?
Yes. Its 90–265VAC, 45–65Hz input range includes New Zealand 230V mains power and can accommodate many generator supplies. The generator still needs to provide stable power within the charger's input specification and enough capacity for the chosen model.
Can it be mounted outdoors?
No. The IP20 rating means it needs a dry, protected installation space with adequate ventilation.
Does it replace a battery isolator or system protection?
No. The charger does not replace correctly sized cabling, fuses, isolation devices or other system protection. These must be designed for the installation.
