The Elecbrakes system is designed to be installed on a trailer and does not require any modification to the tow vehicle.
Elecbrakes Bluetooth electronic brake controller is revolutionising the towing process by eliminating the need for modification to your tow vehicle. Designed and assembled in Australia, this simple-to-use brake controller can be fitted to any trailer. It is controlled through Bluetooth and can be synced to any Smartphone device or the optional EB Controller mentioned below.
Elecbrakes employs a high-speed microprocessor and various sensors that continuously sample the operating parameters at over 1,000 times per second. For communication, the device uses the widely adopted Bluetooth 4.0 standard, and the hardware selections yield a Bluetooth device that has long-range capability ensuring high connection reliability and no dropouts under typical operating conditions. This ensures the device can be mounted anywhere on the trailer's drawbar.
The Elecbrakes app provides the user with the ability to monitor, configure programs and control brake response from the tow vehicle.
Elecbrakes is normally powered via the tail lights, however, a second preferred Auxillary Power Input from the battery is also provided if the user has a prime towing vehicle. The system has been designed to continue operating even if the Bluetooth signal is interrupted or lost.
Housed in a tough fibre-reinforced housing and encased in urethane, ensuring the electronics are fully protected from water, dust and vibration.

Notes:
Testing - As this is a proportional controller this system may struggle to show braking on rollers during WOF testing when the tow vehicle is not moving. In these situations, it is recommended to select Programme 5 and set the minimum level to 50-60% this will activate the brakes when the brake pedal is applied in the tow vehicle.
Compliance - Guide Safe Loading Towing | Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency (nzta.govt.nz)
The regulations state that over 2500kg and under 3500kg that a vehicle must have a direct service brake system - this service brake system allows the driver of the towing vehicle to directly and progressively regulate the trailer brake effort from the driving position. This includes vacuum-operated brakes and pneumatic over hydraulic systems, controlled directly by the driver of the towing vehicle. The Elecbrake system is compliant when the remote or phone with the app is plugged into a power source and are accessible to the driver in the vehicle.
